Installation Help
- It is important that your Windows
operating system be up to date. Your browser is a crucial, integrated part
of Windows. We suggest using Brave or Firefox. Check your browser for updates.
- Installation of MyComputerCop is straightforward and automatic no matter what
variant of Windows you are using.
- My Computer Cop blocks a very large number of Fully Qualified
Domain Names (FQDN) which have become notorious for their undesirable content and or their breach of privacy
considerations. This is achieved without drawing upon neither
physical memory nor central processor resources. My Computer Cop
does not require any changes be made to your system and can be
implemented on any Windows computer ranging from a 80486-powered
(or equiv. brand) machine to a Pentium 4 (or equiv. brand) or
greater. Should you wish to install this software on your Unix /
Linux machine, please contact Support
for assistance.
- The Program Group for My Computer Cop includes an
administrative "Uninstall" function. For this reason the Program Group
default installation makes this available to only the user who
installed the software. Do not adjust the default installation
unless you have a very specific intent and know how to implement
that intent. Should you have already made what you feel might be
an error in this respect, simply delete the program group from
your start menu by right clicking it and selecting "delete". Then
reinstall the software from the correct login and allow the
default placement of the Program Group. Please also note the
following instructions in (4) and (5).
- Install from computer-owner or supervisor's login in Windows
95, Windows 98 /SE /ME.
- Install as Administrator on Windows NT, Windows 2000 and
Windows XP.
- Ideally, any subsequent changes should only be made from the
login as set out in (4) and (5) above. See also "
Hiding the "Undo" feature."
- You may find that some computer users have reason and
permission to access certain sites which are blocked by this
software. After the program has installed you may at any time
remove and restore its function by clicking the "Undo" tool in
the My Computer Cop program group. This disables ("Off Duty") the
software until such time as you select "Re-Install" which
correspondingly reactivates the software ("On Duty").
- After installing My Computer Cop, clear your browser's cache by deleting all
cache files. (In MSIE6+: click Tools > Internet Options > Temporary
Internet Files > Delete Files. In Netscape: click Edit > Preferences >
Advanced > Cache > Clear Memory Cache and Clear Disk Cache.) This will
remove, if any exist, previously stored web pages containing unwanted content,
tracking banners, cookie code etc.
